I watched "Being There" today while I was at work, in order to have some things to bring up during today's class discussion. So here we are:
A few great quotes I heard in the film, describing Mr. Gardener that I thought I would share:
"you don't play word games to protect yourself"
"a kind and sensitive man"
he has "the gift of being natural"
when handling reporters, he is "so cool and detached"
Although the film was quite slow, I found points of it to be fascinating. However, Dr. Macfarlane made a comment about the controversial ending shot of the film, and I really didn't understand it's significance.
Mr. Gardener seemed to have had some mental disability. He seemed slow, and not all "there."
Mr. Gardener seemed to have a fascination with television. Often, he didn't watch the television programs for a long period of time, enough to fully enjoy appreciate or understand.
